Call for Abstracts
Calling all Building Physics Researchers & Professionals
The International Building Physics Conference 2027 organising team invites researchers and professionals to submit abstracts reporting state-of-the-art developments on the science and practice of building physics.
We are now only accepting submissions for poster presentations, the opportunity to submit an abstract for consideration as an oral presentation has now closed.

Themes
Abstract themes need to be related to building physics but preference will be given to topics that complement the theme by providing new insights into:
Building Envelope
Exploration of heat, air & moisture transfer
Examples:
- Hygrothermal performance
- Managing moisture risks
- Airtightness and ventilation
Energy Efficiency & Building Performance
Review of the latest research and industry advances for new builds and retrofits
Examples:
- Performance gap between reality & modelling
- High performance buildings
- Industry skills and training
Indoor Air / Environmental Quality
Discussion of factors influencing occupant health and well-being
Examples:
- Pollutants and materials emissions
- Acoustics
- Occupant comfort
Climate and Outdoor Environment

Human Factors & Occupant Behaviour
How do we integrate technical performance with occupant experience?

Spotlight on innovation by and for industry to create highly efficient, comfortable and sustainable buildings

Focus on topics that are becoming increasingly important to address

Guidelines
Format of Submission
- Abstracts to be submitted in English
- Abstract Submissions should be no more than 250 words
- The Conference Committee reserves the right to determine the final presentation format based on the outcome of the abstract review process, but you will have the option to select your preferred format from the below upon submission:
- Standard Presentation 15 min (incl Q&A) session with content focused on the relevant theme
- Student Presentation 15 min (incl Q&A) session with content focused on the relevant theme delivered by a current undergraduate or postgraduate student focused on their academic work
- Lightning Talk Short (5 mins) session conveying a concise single message
- Poster A brief, visually organised summary of research
- Workshop (30 – 60 mins) Interactive session to support collaboration where attendees actively participate in the session
- Case Study (15 mins) Presentation of a real-world project, problem or application to illustrate theory into practice
Although it’s the same time as a presentation, acknowledging ‘case study’ at the point of submission helps the scientific committee balance overall submissions and the programme.
- You will be required to enter in the author/co-authors and affiliations separately during the submission process
- You will be required to enter a bio/career history for the Presenting Author/s (max. 150 words each)
- If you are submitting on behalf of the Presenter/s, please have their email address/s ready to include in the submission
- By submitting an abstract/paper, authors consent to allow the IBPC 2027 Conference Committee and BRANZ to publish on the conference or association website
When selecting a corresponding author, please ensure that this person will have continued access to their chosen email address up to, and after the conference. In the case of student submissions, where the student may be completing their studies in the near future, it may be prudent for the student’s supervisor to act as corresponding author.
Proceedings
The conference proceedings will be published by Springer Nature as in the Lecture Notes in Civil Engineering (LNCE) book series (https://link.springer.com/series/15087) and will be submitted for indexing in Scopus, EI Compendex and other relevant databases after publication.
After the conference, extended full papers will be included in special issues of prestigious journals, among which Journal of Building Engineering (Elsevier), Building and Environment (Elsevier), and Journal of Building Physics (Sage).

General Information
Review and Notification to Authors
All completed abstract submissions will be reviewed. Authors will be notified by 21 August 2026 regarding acceptance of their abstract. If your abstract submission is accepted, you will be required to submit a Full Paper by 11 September 2026 16 October 2026.
Registration
All presenters are required to register and pay the conference registration fee in order to be included in the programme and to present in person at the event. Registration and payment of registration fee by presenters of accepted papers must be completed by no later than 11 December 2026.
Publication
By submitting an abstract, authors agree to the publication of chosen abstracts and full abstracts on the conference mobile app and conference proceedings or similar by the IBPC Conference 2027.
Presentation Materials
Authors will have the opportunity to share their presentation slides or related materials for distribution to delegates following the event.
Presentation Format
The Conference Committee reserves the right to determine the final presentation format based on the outcome of the abstract review process.
Use of AI
It is permitted to use of AI tools and technologies to enhance the language and grammar of papers for this conference. This includes, but is not limited to, AI-powered proofreading and editing tools to improve the quality of written content.
Authors must disclose their use of AI in preparing their papers during the submission process. Any unethical use of AI, such as plagiarizing content or misrepresenting AI-generated contributions as original work, is strictly prohibited.
